Excavations at East Farleigh usually start in April and continue throughout the summer, finally finishing around the end of September, depending on the weather. This year, 2019, we start on the 7th April. Digging at the site is on a Sunday from 10am until 4pm. There is sometimes an additional weekday opportunity, depending on demand and availability of supervisors. If you can't manage a whole day, don't worry, arrangements are fairly informal and we are happy for you to give as much time as you are able. We do have some tools available to members, but for those who wish to come regularly we would recommend investing in your own trowel, spade and mattock, and possibly a folding chair.

There will be one or more supervisors on site and instruction can be given to those new to archaeology. Please be aware that although we try and prepare trenches in advance with a mechanical digger, the digging can be physically demanding.

There are no toilet facilities on site but there is no shortage of trees. A flask of something to drink and a packed lunch are recommended.

We do not charge a daily excavation fee, however there is a small annual fee to join the Group which is a requirement. The current joining fee is £6 a year or £9 for a family membership.
