Maidstone Area Archaeological Group (MAAG) is a registered charity (No. 275899), funded by membership fees and donations. We were founded in 1969 in order to:

promote archaeological research in the Maidstone area

co-ordinate archaeological research

publish the results of such research

Our activities include:

current excavation of Roman buildings at East Farleigh

fieldwork and other practical projects

monthly indoor meetings from September to June, at Maidstone Community Support Centre - see LATEST NEWS page for details - with talks on a variety of archaeological and historical subjects

outings to places of interest

Our members have a wide variety of local knowledge, and we have links with other groups, who can provide specialist equipment and expertise, including resistivity surveying and metal detecting. We are affiliated to the Kent Archaeological Society (KAS), the Kent History Federation (KHF) and the Council for British Archaeology (CBA), and work closely with the County Archaeologist.

We welcome new members: beginners and experienced alike. We keep our annual subscriptions low, and taxpayers can increase the value of their subscription by signing a Gift Aid declaration. Current subscriptions, due on 1st April, are:
